A weekend to meet fellow climbers and care for the forest

Fanatic Climbing is organising a weekend that brings the climbing community together and turns shared values into practical action in the forest.

On Saturday 26 September, from 8 pm to 10 pm, Karma climbing gym in Fontainebleau-Avon will host “Faire collectif”. No booking is required for this open meeting, where climbers can discuss how local initiatives can work together and collectively shape the future of climbing in Bleau.

On Sunday 27 September, participants will meet at 10 am in the Franchard Isatis car park for a clean-up lasting until 5 pm. Volunteers are encouraged to bring spray bottles, poles and brushes. The day will also provide an opportunity to share information about areas affected by the wildfires and promote good practice in the forest.

RespectBleau brings together people who are passionate about climbing, nature and the conservation of Fontainebleau forest’s environmental heritage. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, but share a commitment to preserving this iconic natural area while encouraging responsible climbing. Our community includes:

Climbing enthusiasts: many members climb regularly, some at a high level. They know the Fontainebleau forest well and actively contribute to projects that protect its climbing areas.
Environmental conservation enthusiasts: several members are professionals or volunteers involved in ecological conservation projects. They contribute expertise on forest ecosystems and work to minimise human impact on this sensitive environment.
Photographers and content creators: some members document the beauty of Fontainebleau through photography and video. They help raise awareness of the importance of protecting this landscape.
Mediators: some members liaise between the climbing community, local authorities and other interest groups. They help foster constructive dialogue and harmonious coexistence among forest users.
Field volunteers: many members take part in practical work such as site clean-ups, path maintenance and waymarking repairs. Their contribution is essential to keeping the forest in good condition.
Educators and trainers: other members focus on climbing ethics and nature conservation education, particularly for young climbers. They organise workshops, training sessions and outings to promote these values.

This diverse community combines a wide range of skills to help Fontainebleau remain an exceptional place to climb while respecting environmental priorities.

A climbing trip to Fontainebleau takes some planning. A successful day starts with good preparation!

No fires!

Do not light any fire or flame in the forest: barbecues, camping stoves, cigarettes… The forest is dry for much of the year, wind can carry fire quickly, and a spark in the bracken can spread faster than you might expect.

If you see a fire starting, move away and call 18 or 112.
