About us
RespectBleau brings together people who are passionate about climbing, nature and the conservation of Fontainebleau forest’s environmental heritage. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, but share a commitment to preserving this iconic natural area while encouraging responsible climbing. Our community includes:
- Climbing enthusiasts: many members climb regularly, some at a high level. They know the Fontainebleau forest well and actively contribute to projects that protect its climbing areas.
- Environmental conservation enthusiasts: several members are professionals or volunteers involved in ecological conservation projects. They contribute expertise on forest ecosystems and work to minimise human impact on this sensitive environment.
- Photographers and content creators: some members document the beauty of Fontainebleau through photography and video. They help raise awareness of the importance of protecting this landscape.
- Mediators: some members liaise between the climbing community, local authorities and other interest groups. They help foster constructive dialogue and harmonious coexistence among forest users.
- Field volunteers: many members take part in practical work such as site clean-ups, path maintenance and waymarking repairs. Their contribution is essential to keeping the forest in good condition.
- Educators and trainers: other members focus on climbing ethics and nature conservation education, particularly for young climbers. They organise workshops, training sessions and outings to promote these values.
This diverse community combines a wide range of skills to help Fontainebleau remain an exceptional place to climb while respecting environmental priorities.
How our organisation works
Respectful communication is the rule within RespectBleau.
Communicate respectfully
Members of the organisation agree to:
- communicate freely and in their own name;
- avoid personal judgements;
- encourage everyone to speak;
- communicate at reasonable times;
- use private messaging for personal messages unrelated to the organisation’s activities.
Ensure fair discussion
During meetings and general assemblies, members agree to share speaking time fairly and allow everyone to express themselves. An agenda is prepared and sent in advance to provide structure for the meeting.
Make decisions collectively
Decisions are made collectively. When a decision must be taken quickly, it must be approved by two other board members.
Respect everyone’s privacy and availability
A shared absence calendar may be maintained. Members who have indicated that they are away will not be involved in decisions made during that period. Everyone’s availability must be respected.
Keep the organisation running well
Regular meetings may be organised. Everyone is encouraged to attend whenever possible.
Members also agree to:
- refrain from commercial canvassing;
- check information before sharing it publicly;
- tacitly accept that information shared within the group may be relayed outside it.
